Statistics (Books in Book)
Statistics is a plug-in for FrameMaker that is supplied and installed with the FINALYSER. Use Statistics to evaluate a book file which might contain books and
individual documents as components.
Apply Statistics only for saved documents. Generated lists in books are not counted in the evaluation.
Text elements, which are only counted on the body pages:
*number of standard pages
*number of characters
*number of words
*number of lines (ends of lines + soft new lines + automatic new lines)
Text elements which are counted on all kinds of pages (unit "standard page"):
*Marker text (only in markers of type Header/ Footer $1/2, Index, Comment, Topic, Author, Glossary, Hypertext/Alert and "user-defined)
*Definition text of variable formats
*Definition text of cross-reference formats
Important with marker texts and definitions:
*characters in Building Blocks (<...>) are not counted
*marker and definition text is displayed in the dimension Standard Pages
*in books the time and effort (e.g. translations) for definition text in Variables+Cross-references can be estimated differently: if formatting in all chapters will be identical, using a template, only time and effort in the template has to be considered.
The number of Standard Pages is calculated according to the following formula: Number of standard pages = total number of characters / 1760 characters. One standard page contains 32 lines of 55 characters.
The following objects are not counted during character counting:
*control characters (paragraphs, anchors, markers, ...) except for tabulators
*ends of lines
*soft new lines (shift-returns)
*automatic new lines
*hidden conditional text
*generated autonumbering characters in paragraphs
*generated character strings like variables and cross-references
*text Insets Source documents are evaluated separately (multiple referenced documents only once)
The following objects count during character counting:
*spaces and tabulators
*suppress hyphenation symbol and discretionary hyphen
*all the printable characters that were not excluded above
Statistics saves the evaluation in a FrameMaker file with the file name STATINBKS.fm
After correct installation, the system loads Statistics automatically when you start FrameMaker.
You generate an evaluation of several documents and books as follows:
1. Create a book containing the book files and document files you want to evaluate.
2. Activate this book. Statistics will close all other open documents without saving them! In this case you have to decide to continue or to cancel the evaluation and to close (resp. save) the open documents yourself (warning signal). If you have to evaluate a large amount of files, we recommend to close other applications.
3. In the FINALYSER menu, choose item Statistics (Books in Book).
4. In the Choose Language dialog box, highlight the language that you want to
evaluate.
Generated files:
*Statistics uses the template file STATINBKS.fm to generate a file called StatBk_D.fm in the current directory. If you do not have write access to the current directory (e.g. because it is on a CD-ROM), or the filename doesn't comply with Windows 3.1 naming conventions, the system displays a standard dialog to allow you to choose a different directory or to enter a correct filename.
*A log file DocumentName STATINBKS.log (text file) containing a numbered list of all evaluated files.Redundant path names (multiple references) are labeled with the number of the evaluated entry. Files which could not be opened are accordingly commented.
Hinweis: Use Format List to list variable and cross-reference definitions. Use Definition Editor to edit those definitions in East European fonts.
